At HubNut we understand that you may require ssh access to your virtual server to fully administer cgi scripts and databases. SSH is more secure than telnet as all information is encrypted between client and server. SSH should only be used by advanced users who want to run shell scripts or use shell commands. An advanced user is someone who is proficient in the internal workings of the UNIX operating system. For SSH we recommend Secure CRT, F-Secure SSH Client or Putty (Freeware).
Connecting to Hubnut via SSH Telnet is simple:
Secure CRT
F-Secure SSH Client
Putty SSH Client
You will be logged into your home directory. All the usual UNIX commands our available to you including cd - change directory, ls - list files, chmod - change file permissions, as well as the editors PICO and Vi. You will find your web pages in /home/web and cgi directory at /home/web/cgi-bin. SSH Telnet is useful to test your cgi scripts. To test your script you must execute it on the server which means your permissions must allow the user to execute the script, otherwise a permission denied error will occur. Go into the directory where the script you wish to test resides, say test.cgi in your cgi-bin directory. Therefore cd /home/web/cgi-bin. To execute the cgi script type ./test.cgi The server will then execute the script and tell you what if any problems occur. After you have found any problems you can edit your script using PICO or Vi in SSH Telnet, then test it again. Eventually you will get your script working and then can test the script from your browser. HubNut has a policy that SSH Telnet access is only given so as to access your scripts and databases. You are not allowed to run any other program, IRC robot, etc. on the servers. Nor are you allowed to leave your home directory. Such action will result in immediate removal of access rights. |
